The huge sized Arbel Cliff sits above Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee). The magnificent cliff is overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights and besides the impressive observation at the site, there is a remarkable synagogue from the time of the Mishnah and Talmud. If you so wish you could enjoy a challenging track along the cliff and climb using pegs fixed to the walls of the cliff. The challenging trail leads to shelter caves from the Hellenistic times. These caves served the Jewish rebels, who were hiding in the caves during King Herod’s reign, and were eventually defeated by soldiers sent in boxes lifted by ropes into the caves. At a later time (the 17th century) a fortress was built at the site; its remains can be seen near the caves.
For those who do not wish to challenge themselves too much, there is an opportunity to enjoy three spectacular observation viewpoints, from three different angles, as well as the various plants and the wildflowers in the reserve.
